Removal of Animated Series on Streaming Services

The other day I sat down on my couch ready to watch a favorite childhood cartoon of mine, when I noticed it seemed to be missing. A few months ago I had been watching the same show on the same streaming service and all was well, so why did it disappear? The streaming company Max run by Warner Bros. began to display Cartoon Network series’ that could be found on Max. Max has a history of removing titles from its service; in 2022 Warner Bros. dropped 37 titles, 25 of them including animation, and Max originals were either removed or in the process of being removed.  Some shows include Infinity Train,  Uncle Grandpa, and Summer Camp Island. One statement given was that Warner Bros. wanted to reassess its content libraries and cut costs. Other than that,  little detail was shared about why these shows, in particular, were cut, or their plans for the future. Some shows, such as Summer Camp Island, were authorized by Max to animate more seasons but were suddenly cut. Those finished episodes will now sit in limbo without the creators being able to publish them. As a creator, Getting animation approved, financed, and supported is so hard. When shows are removed without notification or warning, those creators lose money, time, and their jobs. They cannot create what they love without the risk of their creations being permanently removed.
